Grammy award-winning artist Cardi B has been charting her journey on social media as she carries out community service in New York.

The US rapper declared the work has been “the best thing that has happened to me” as she posted a series of images of her getting ready to serve her time.

The “Bodak Yellow” star wrote on Twitter: “Community service has been the best thing that has happened to me.

“Almost like a spiritual journey because sometimes I leave these centers in tears.

“Those people that we leave behind they just need somebody to talk and a lil push and YOU might be able to change their life forever.”

We take a look at the multi award-winning musician and why she has to do community service.

Why is Cardi B doing community service?

In September 2022, Cardi B pleaded guilty to third-degree assault and second-degree reckless endangerment and was sentenced to 15 days community service. A further 10 charges were dismissed.

The charges related to an incident involving two female bartenders at a nightclub in Queens, New York in 2018.

The star and members of her entourage were said to have targeted the women over an apparent personal dispute, throwing alcohol and bottles at them on one occasion and pulling the hair of one of the women and slamming her head into the bar in a separate incident.

After the sentencing, she said: “I’ve made some bad decisions in my past that I am not afraid to face and own up to.

“These moments don’t define me and they are not reflective of who I am now.

“I’m looking forward to moving past this situation with my family and friends and getting back to the things I love the most – the music and my fans.”

In January, the 30-year-old rapper appeared at Queens County Criminal Court in a “compliance update” hearing after failing to carry out 15 days of mandatory unpaid work as part of a plea deal.

She was given until 1 March to complete the community service.

Her subsequent posts on Twitter have revealed her journey as she fulfilled the sentence.

In one she wrote: “Community service ….I have to do a lot of hours today and I’m very sleepy ……..YOU DO THE CRIME YOU DO THE TIME!!!!!”
