The child was pronounced dead at the scene and five others were injured. Two adults and two children were taken to hospital and a man was treated at the scene by ambulance crews, the Brigade said in a statement.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
The Brigade said it took about two hours for the incident to be over, with the fire destroying the flat.
About 40 firefighters and six fire engines from a number of fire stations, including Barking and East Ham, were in attendance, the statement said.
