The Chancellor is facing a backlash from Tory MPs this morning after his Spring Budget put the UK’s tax burden on course to reach its highest level since the Second World War.

Delivering his first Budget as Chancellor on Wednesday, Mr Hunt promised his plan would help grow Britain’s economy, however the Office for Budget Responsibility, the official forecaster, has calculated that a series of stealth taxes introduced in the Budget will push millions of people into high income tax brackets.

Meanwhile, Labour has criticised the Chancellor’s plan to abolish the lifetime pensions allowance arguing that it will only benefit a wealthy few, and has said it will abolish the policy if it gets into power at the next election.
