Police in Northern Ireland have confirmed they are investigating a security breach following reports that a document with information regarding Joe Biden’s trip to Belfast was found in the street by a member of the public.

BBC Radio Ulster’s Nolan Show reported that the Police Service Northern Ireland (PSNI) document was found this morning showing a detailed itinerary of the trip, which is being made under a major security operation.

More than 300 police officers from across the UK have been drafted in to help cover the visit to Northern Ireland, following an intelligence warning of a potential terror plot by dissident republican groups. The security operation is estimated to be costing £7m.

A spokesperson for PSNI said: “We are aware of a security breach. An investigation has commenced and we have notified the Senior Information Risk Officer.

“We take the safety of visiting dignitaries, members of the public and our officers and staff extremely seriously and will put the appropriate actions in place.”
